City claim point at Burnley.

Bristol City Women claimed a point in Burnley after a 0-0 draw at Turf Moor.

City were dominant for large spells of the game with chances coming through Hardy, Meena and Lindström but were unable to find any way through.

Head Coach Charlotte Healy had named just one change to the side that beat Watford 5-1 last weekend as Malaika Meena came into the side in place of Marine Dafeur.

It was a bright start in Lancashire with the first chance of the game coming inside just four minutes.

Maria Farrugia was picked out well on her flank and drove towards the penalty area before unleashing an effort over the bar.

Just five minutes later City came close again, this time through Rio Hardy.

Malaika Meena, Alexia Apostolakis and Sophie Ingle had all combined brilliantly deep in the Burnley half before finding Hardy whose attempt was struck on goal but Jackie Burns was equal to the attempt.

The best chance of the half came upon the 25th minute as Skipper Emily Syme delivered a perfect cross to Hardy who was unable to direct her header on target from six yards out.

Healy’s side entered the break level at the interval, but much the better side.

Less than ten minutes into the second period, The Robins looked destined to go in front.

Hardy turned provider, floating a delicious ball in behind The Clarets defence which was well brought down by Lotta Lindström before she fired well over from close range.

Five minutes later Meena had two chances for City in quick succession but she narrowly missed the target at both times of asking.

With 20 minutes to go, Katie Robinson was introduced and it wasn’t long before she had the near desired impact, striking an effort on target from outside the area which was well saved by Burns.

Emma Bissell was introduced late on but there was no breakthrough to be found as City were forced to settle for a point at Turf Moor. 

The Robins will look to make it three unbeaten next weekend against Southampton at Ashton gate on Sunday, October 4th.
